    Building Permit Information If you build ANY STRUCTURE over 200 square feet (small shed), you MUST have an approved building permit. Below you will find the appropriate applications and order of processes. Building Permit Process 1. Submit the appropriate application to the City of Potlatch along with your construction plans. 2. The City will then submit your application and plans to the City's Building Inspector at Latah County. 3. Latah County Inspector will then review the application and building plans. If changes are needed, they will contact the name on the application. If they approve the application and the plans, you will pay the permit fee to the City of Potlatch and City Hall will then issue you a Building Permit.     City of Potlatch Comprehensive Plan What is a Comprehensive Plan ? All truly successful ventures require planning. If the City of Potlatch is to become what its citizens want, then the people of Potlatch must have a plan of how to get there. They must be assured that the City's government, as embodied in the City Council and Mayor, understands both the vision of the future and the plan to get there. The City of Potlatch's Comprehensive Plan is the official public statement of the City's planning goals, policies and objectives. These provide the guidelines that attempt to maintain and improve the quality of life enjoyed by those who live in Potlatch. The responsibility of maintaining and improving the qualify of life in the City is a responsibility shared jointly by the City's government officials and citizens alike.     (208) 743-4075 TRASH COLLECTION & RECYCLING Trash is collected every Tuesday. For service questions, please call Sunshine Disposal at (208) 743-4075 2026 HOLIDAY SERVICE SCHEDULE Trash collection is delayed by one day for the following holidays: New Year’s Day Memorial Day Independence Day Labor Day Thanksgiving Day Christmas Day If the holiday is observed on a weekend, no changes will occur with the collection schedule. When in doubt, put it out! *In case of inclement weather or road construction, trash will be serviced the following week at no charge. Set carts out by 6:30 a.m., remove them from the street within 24 hours. Place wheeled cart against the curb or along the alley with the handle pointing toward your residence. Keep carts at least three feet away from other carts, mailboxes, fire hydrants, parked cars, or utility poles so trucks can easily access the cart. Roll-carts are available in 35, 65, and 95 gallons. The correctly sized cart should allow for occasional extra volume. Items that are around or fall from your roll-cart during collection are the responsibility of the customer. To avoid this, please tie off all garbage in plastic bags and place in a roll-cart. If your garbage is missed, please call Sunshine (208) 743-4075) as soon as possible. Materials not allowed: construction material, TVs, monitors, hot ashes, human waste, large quantities of animal waste, dead animals, solvents, flammable liquids, asbestos, ammunition, fuel tanks, hazardous materials.     Potlatch History The community of Potlatch began as a company town for Potlatch Forest, Inc., once boasting the world's largest White Pine sawmill in the United States (1906) with a booming forest industry. The City of Potlatch has a population of over 800 people. The City is located one mile off of Highway 95 on State Highway 6 (aka Scenic 6) and is 18 miles NE of Moscow and 51 miles NE of Lewiston. Potlatch offers two walking tours for history buffs: "A Walking Tour of the Potlatch Commercial District" and "A Walking Tour of Potlatch Neighborhoods". Pick up your free tour guide document at City Hall or at the WIMHPG railroad depot. These publications are provided by the Potlatch Historical Society and the City of Potlatch. A brochure, "The Palouse Country", which offers directions for driving tours of Latah and Whitman Counties, is also available at City Hall or at the WIMHPG railroad depot. WI&M Depot By 1905, the Potlatch Lumber Company owned 100,000 acres of timber in Idaho’s white pine belt, the largest remaining stand of virgin white pine timber in the world. Potlatch Union Church Dedicated in 1912. When it was built it was the largest church in Latah County and could seat approximately 1000 people. The church burned to the ground July 15, 1951. Potlatch Mercantile The cornerstone of the Potlatch Mercantile Company Store is dated 1906 and it was a major economic force in Latah County, until it burned down on January 13, 1963.
